Dominik Schmitt

Schmitt studied Fine Arts, Biology and Educational Sciences at Campus Landau, University of Koblenz Landau.

Above all, the artist deals with the philosophical and biological question of the ego. In addition, there are questions about consciousness, for example about its pillars or the difference between knowledge and belief and the expression of the ego in feelings like love and fear.

The works of art by Dominik Schmitt impress with an enormous detail and one can recognize the influences of the biology studies very well again. The high quality he brings with a mixing technique on screens. These canvases are first taped with paper. This paper is old newspaper reports or old learning material, which he uses for it. Afterwards, materials such as oil and acrylic paints and felt-tip pens are used. The figures that can be seen on the paintings result from the process. After that texts will be added handwritten, printed or sprayed with stencils.
Looking at the art of Dominik Schmitt, you can see the references or his inspirations well. There are observations from nature and stylistic devices from the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods. You are immediately trapped in his world and the viewer is almost on an expedition.
