Gustav Klimt
Gustav Klimt was born on July 14, 1862 and is one of the most famous representatives of Viennese Art Nouveau.
Klimt was supposed to learn his father’s profession as a gold engraver, but received a scholarship so that he could study at the Vienna School of Applied Arts from 1876 to 1883. Austrian Museum of Art and Industry.
In 1880 he founded the “artist company” with his brother Ernst.
In 1891 he became a member of the Vienna Visual Artists’ Cooperative ( Künstlerhaus ).
In 1892 his father died in July and his younger brother Ernst died in December.
In 1879 Gustav Klimt founded the “Secession”. He was the first president of this group.
Klimt’s artistic oeuvre mainly extends from landscape depictions to portrait painting, which before the turn of the century were still very much in the naturalistic style and then became more and more abstract without a spatial structure and now appear more flat.
Gustav Klimt died in Vienna in 1918.
